What to expect after a dog is neutered?

Hi, I'm a dog named Bulencia! Now we will talk about the castration of dogs. When I was two years old, my people decided to do this operation for me. Read what to expect after a dog is neutered in this article.

1. How to prepare a dog for neutering?

For a young dog, special preparation for the operation is not required. It is only necessary to make an ultrasound of the heart, not to eat for ten hours and not to drink 4 hours before surgery. Also, the pet must be pre-treated for parasites. It is important that the dog is completely healthy. To understand if your pet has any health problems, you can use special tests.

Older dogs will need blood and urine tests.

2. How long does the operation take?

The total duration of the operation is about 40 minutes, but I was in the veterinary clinic for about two hours. The dog needs to move away from anesthesia under the supervision of veterinarians. After this, the dog can move independently. After one hour, the pet can drink water, and after two hours to eat a little feed.

3. What to expect after a dog is neutered?

At first, the dog may vomit. This usually happens after the first meal or after the pet has drunk water. In this case, food and water must be removed. If your dog does not feel better, consult your veterinarian.

A medical patch is applied to the seam. Buster collar veterinarians recommended not to wear, so as not to injure the psyche of the pet. After the operation, the dog will need a good rest in a comfortable bed for dogs.

3. How to care for a dog after neutering?

The next day, a veterinary clinic conducts a postoperative examination of the dog. Veterinarians give painkillers injections, process stitches, and give necessary medications for the pet.

I recommend having a special first-aid kit for your pets at home. You can buy all the necessary medicines for pets online at a veterinary pharmacy.

4. How much does it cost to sterilize a dog?

The prices for dog sterilization are different in Russia and in the USA. I live in Russia and my people spent about $120 on this operation. Of these, about $80 was worth the operation, and $40 was the second appointment and medication. In the US, prices range from 65 to 500 dollars.

I recommend choosing the best veterinary clinic to sterilize your pet. I know of cases where incompetent veterinarians killed dogs and cats during this operation. It is not known what to expect after a dog is neutered if the operation is performed in a poor clinic.

5. Is it worth it to risk a pet and worry, not knowing what to expect after a dog is neutered?

I think dog sterilization is necessary if your pet does not give birth to puppies. The dog will live longer and the risk of breast tumors will decrease. Also, dogs often run away from home to “find love”(so that your pet does not get lost during a walk, use GPS-trackers for dogs). And a very great danger is “false pregnancy”, which sometimes occurs in dogs that have not given birth to puppies. With a false pregnancy, the dog becomes aggressive towards others.
